Situated to the north west of Bradford City Centre were two settlements called Black Abbey and White Abbey, both separated by White Abbey Road. White Abbey developed into a large and rather notorious neighbourhood during the 19th Century but today, both places have been radically transformed and neither area is referred to by its original name. Why did this happen? Delivered by Jonathan Crewdson, Director of the Neighbourhood Project, this talk will look at the history of Black Abbey and White Abbey: two of Bradford's lost and forgotten neighbourhoods. It is free and will take place at the Millside Centre on the corner of Grattan Road and Thornton Road. Light refreshments will be provided.
IMPORTANT! Please do not just turn up for this event. To book on, please either email us using [email protected] or telephone or text Jonathan Crewdson on 07422 715910.
This event is happening thanks to financial support from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
