Vibrate is Alyssa Favero’s self-choreographed interdisciplinary collaboration utilizing both original text and recorded text by Audre Lorde as well as the wide range of movement vocabulary within Alyssa’s personal dance history - from whacking/waacking/punking to contemporary improvisation to heels. Vibrate synthesizes all of these elements to investigate the emotional landscape of self-expression and pleasure.
The creation of Vibrate is supported by Canada Council for the Arts.
About the Artists:
Odd is a playful and energetic dancer, with an unquenchable thirst for learning and new experiences. Their involvement in the whacking scene has led them to perform at the Montreal Fringe Festival, Pride Montreal (Mundo Disko), on television and in numerous drag numbers. In 2021, she co-founded très bonne idée, a collective aiming to create spaces for informal dance gatherings and performance events for Montreal’s emerging artists scene. She has since facilitated open stages, jams and two shows – S’improviser l’hiver and Le show frette. She has also organized her first battle Act Out in April 2024. She has worked in production for theater companies and has recently taken a role in assisting the production of larger events with JKFL Productions. As a lover of CAMP, melancholy and all their quirks, she aims to create worlds in which whacking can live in all the extravagance and playfulness that it is.
Rodolfo Rueda is a multidisciplinary artist mainly developing his craft in music and photography. Borned in Lima, Peru one has to learn how to be aware of the surroundings at all times. The overwhelming constant reception to sound, image and other stimuli were a constant in Rodolfo's growth, which makes him a hectic mixture with unexpected outcomes when it comes to art. Now based in MTL, Canada he recently graduated in the Jazz performance program at McGill University. In addition to this, Rodolfo is also currently working commissions as a photographer, composer/sound designer, performing as VJ for live performances and he’s also releasing his own music on his solo project CIBER1A which is mainly focused on experimenting with electronic music and pop
Alyssa / Lyzah is a transient being who moves through the world with fluidity and curiosity. They are an emerging experimental dance artist, choreographing, performing, producing, and facilitating primarily in so-called Montreal and so-called Vancouver. As an interpreter, Alyssa has had the pleasure of developing works with street dance-contemporary choreographers including Khoudia Toure (Senegal) and We All Fall Down (Montreal). As a choreographer-director Lyzah dives into the multiplicities in an individual, collective and ancestral experience. Some of their finished works include Gigil, presented by Odd Meridian Arts during Asian Heritage Month at Morrow (2024) and Vibrate which performed at Nextfest and Dancing on the Edge (2023). As a facilitator, pillars of how they lead classes include: kindness, embracing individuality and the play between laughter and rigour. Alyssa has embraced a continuous loop of learning, sharing, and living. This cycle feeds Lyzah, transforming each singular experience into the infinite.
