Biska Jatra is a vibrant and culturally significant festival celebrated in Bhaktapur, Nepal, during the Nepali New Year (mid-April). This ancient festival, unique to the Newah community, lasts for about nine days and is famous for its chariot processions, traditional rituals, and intense tug-of-war competitions. This year we bring this vibrant cultural event and rich traditions of Nepal to the Pacific Northwest. This event features:
- An exhilarating Khat Jatra (chariot procession) accompanied by the enchanting rhythms of Dhimay baja
- A sumptuous Newah feast (Newah Bhoye) served in a traditional setting
This is a unique opportunity to experience and honor the living heritage of Nepal. Beyond the festivities, this event is a powerful way to connect with the community, build meaningful relationships, and support cultural preservation.
