The Birth Assistant Training workshop is a three day workshop designed to provide a thorough entry level training in the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the duties of a birth assistant to the out of hospital, community midwife. Topics covered will include defining the role and scope of the birth assistant, practical clinical skills, birth kit supplies/set up and the uses thereof, sterile technique and assisting in repairs, medications and homeopathics/herbs adminsitered during labor and immediate postpartum, introduction to charting and record keeping, common birth emergencies and the practical skills to assist in them, and immediate postpartum care of the birthing person and newborn. In addition, there will be live models with whom to practice skills, and plenty of hands on practice time. This workshop will be fascilitated by April Duggins, experienced birth attendant. (1000+ births)The Birth Assistant Training Workshop will be held in Tacoma, WA from Friday, February 28th through Sunday, March 2nd, 2025. The fee for the Birth Assistant Training workshop is $550. Payment in full is due no later than Monday, February 23rd unless arrangements have been made with facilitator prior to February 23rd. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT ABSOLUTELY NO REFUNDS OF WORKSHOP FEES WILL BE GIVEN. Fees may be applied to future workshop costs if you are unable to attend. If the fascilitator must cancel the workshop for any reason, it will be rescheduled and also offered virtually.
One 50% scholarship is offered to a single parent birth professional and one 50% scholarship is offered to a birth professional of color. Scholarships are offered on a first come, first served basis. Please contact me via email at [email protected] with any questions you may have.
