Presented by Triple M, Village Sounds & Eleven: A Music Company.
Rock chameleons Birds Of Tokyo will stage some unconventional shows in Australia’s favourite rock venues over the coming months. The band will perform an opening set in ‘acoustic busking mode’ followed by fully plugged performances of electric anthems like “Lanterns”, “Good Lord”, “Plans” and “Unbreakable” which have seen them grow into one of Australia’s most popular bands.
The tour’s name and concept were inspired by a new single (link) they’re dropping today – “Heartbreakers Bar”. This rowdy, leave-your-cares-behind singalong features raw acoustic instrumentation. It’s accompanied by a tongue-in-cheek video (link) which gave the band the idea to perform this song live – and reinterpret some of their classics – like they were ‘busking’ in a small bar. After intermission they will then return for a full rock show including deep dives into a catalog which has won them the APRA Award for “Australia’s Most Performed Rock/Alternative Work” on a record setting six occasions and delivered five top 3 ARIA album charts, including two #1’s.
Support for all dates will be critically acclaimed singer/songwriter, Sahara Beck and the tour is proudly presented by Triple M. Tickets will go on presale to the band and venue databases at from 10am Monday August 19 to 5pm Tuesday August 20 (or until sold out). The general public ticket release will follow at 10am on Wednesday August 21.
Surprisingly “The Heartbreakers Bar Tour” will be Birds Of Tokyo’s first headlining tour since well before the pandemic. Over recent years they’ve played big gigs with everyone from Incubus to Keith Urban as well as staging two acclaimed tours with Symphony Orchestras across Australia including multiple sold out shows at stately venues like Hamer Hall and the Sydney Opera House. In keeping with this eclectic touring schedule, the band will also appear as Cold Chisel’s special guest on several sold out dates this spring.
“It’s been over five years since we’ve played in our old stomping grounds like The Enmore and The Forum so we’re really looking forward to finally getting back into those rooms that everyone loves”, said frontman Ian Kenny.
“It’s been amazing to appear on all these big outdoor shows and to collaborate with those great orchestras over recent years but these two-act gigs will allow us to dig a bit deeper into our catalog and play some songs we haven’t done in ages”, explained guitarist Adam Spark. “We always like to shake things up a bit so doing an acoustic set as well as a normal one should keep us on our toes. Hopefully it’ll be a bit of extra fun for the audiences too.”
