BirdLife WA Speakers Night - speakers and topics are:
Nathan Yaschenko is a current Master of Science student at Edith Cowan University, studying a large, nocturnal raptor that inhabits the dense forests of Southwest Western Australia - the Australian Masked Owl (Tyto novaehollandiae novaehollandiae). Working in the Shire of Augusta-Margaret River, his work is focused on developing a new survey methodology for the species that integrates bioacoustics and acoustic recognition software, and he hopes to determine whether the low detection rates of call play-back surveys can be improved upon with this new methodology. He will also apply this technique to monitor multiple breeding pairs of Australian Masked Owl to examine habitat use and other behavioural patterns.
Details about the second speaker and topic to be announced soon.
The meeting is open to all and entry is by gold coin donation, light refreshments will be available.
If you feel at all unwell - PLEASE STAY HOME.
