We will be exploring the Forest Hill Cemetery off Gregory and Troost Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri. The property is 160 acres, and holds a few "Champion" trees, those in which are the largest of their species in the KC area. This is especially exciting, as Sally is going to begin a monthly bird count to document the species on the inner city property. We will park at the cemetery office, near the entrance to the cemetery. There are two entrances, so be sure to do a little driving until you get to the office. You'll see a small circle drive nearby. We'll meet there, then carpool down the drive to a creek running through the property. We will then explore a few large brush piles near the back of the property. Please bring your own binoculars. I'll have a few on hand as extras. Experienced and novice birders are welcome! Wear warm clothes. This walk is dependent on weather. Please check the Burroughs Facebook page as well as the website for weather updates. Your host for this field trip is Sally Urdang, a Master Naturalist with the Osage Trails chapter. Her favorite birds are the Belted Kingfisher and the White-breasted Nuthatch. Meet at 9 AM at the cemetery office parking lot. Address is 6901 Troost Ave, Kansas City, MO 64131.
