About this Event
Join us to learn about the advantages of birding by bike and explore the habitats of Hyland Lake Park Reserve in Bloomington! We will start at the nature center and loop south through the rolling hills of the park. We’ll pay attention to differences in breeding bird assemblages as we move through mixed deciduous woods, oak and cedar groves, open brushy areas, restored prairie, and various wetlands.
We will meet at the west end of the parking lot next to the bike trail. The trails are paved and somewhat hilly with a few significant climbs. In total we could cover up to 7 miles, but if we are seeing a lot of birds, we may not get that far - the primary goal is hearing and spotting birds, not covering miles or reaching a destination. Our pace will be fairly relaxed and we will stick together as a group.
Bring your bike, helmet, binoculars, snacks, and water. If you don’t have binoculars we will provide a pair you can use. The leader will bring a first aid kit. There will be a couple of opportunities for bathroom stops.
Any level of birding experience is welcome 🙂
