Birding at Semiahmoo Spit

Saturday, February 7, 2026

Time: 9:00am-12:00pm

Trip Leader: Paul Woodcock

Registration Required

Trip Limit: 20

Meet at Semiahmoo County Park parking lot.

We can usually find exciting birding action along the shores of Semiahmoo Spit in February. Our plan will be to walk the length of the spit from the park to the north end and return, a distance of slightly under three miles. We will check the beaches east and west, the marina, Drayton Harbor and the harbor entrance, and the view north from Tongue Point. Along with marine birds, we should also find a number of passerines and other resident species. Please remember to prepare for whatever cold or rainy weather is in the forecast.

We can often locate well over forty birds species on a good day at Semiahmoo this time of year, if the weather allows. This can include about fifteen species of ducks, possibly three species of grebes, two species of geese, several species of shorebirds and gulls, Bald Eagles, Anna’s Hummingbirds, Belted Kingfishers and about a dozen species of wintering and resident passerines.

We invite all who are interested, even if you have never gone birding before. Feel free to ask question and for assistance as needed. Please join us for what is almost always a rewarding birding experience.
