Description: October is peak sparrow season at Cleveland Lakefront Nature Preserve, and we invite you to celebrate it with us. Over the years, 20 sparrow species have been recorded at this remarkable lakeside habitat. In mid‑October, we can expect White‑crowned, White‑throated, Chipping, and Field Sparrow, along with Dark‑eyed Junco and Eastern Towhee. American Tree and Fox Sparrow should be just arriving. Song and Swamp Sparrow should be present, too. Grasshopper, Clay‑colored, and Vesper Sparrow were seen at the location this past spring and may return this fall. We’ll also keep an eye out for other fall favorites, including Ruby‑crowned and Golden‑crowned Kinglets, Brown Creeper, and Winter Wren. To help everyone feel confident in the field, Michelle Brosius will offer a sparrow identification refresher via Zoom on Wednesday, October 14 at 7:00 p.m. Attend the webinar, the walk, or both!
