About this Event
About Bird City:
For nearly three decades, singer/songwriter Jenny Mitchell has been regarded as one of the most original voices within the Canadian indie music scene, and her latest project, Bird City, is her most personal yet.As a beloved fixture of the music community in and around Guelph, Ontario, Mitchell has been a member of the Barmitzvah Brothers, the Burning Hell, Richard Laviolette and the Oil Spills, as well as performing under her solo alter ego Jenny Omnichord. Bird City is in many ways an evolution of the last concept, with Mitchell trading her Omnichord for the banjo and tenor guitar. Focusing on these instruments finally allowed Mitchell’s songwriting talents to fully blossom, and the exposed and poetic songs of paranoia, heartbreak and self-examination debuted on her album Winnowing. For the past 6 years she's been working on a new record, that gets closer by the day.https://birdcity.bandcamp.com/
About Pink Moth:
Pink Moth is the alter-ego of songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and actor Ray Francis. Their fourth full-length album Dark Oxygen explores themes of loss, rebirth, searching, longing and survival. Self-recorded over a handful of years in various spaces including a tinsmith shop, a garage, a library and an attic, this is by far their most melodic, far-reaching, and inspired work. It has recently been discovered that oxygen exists in the darkest depths of the ocean; a comforting metaphor for survival in trying times.https://pinkmoth.bandcamp.com/
About Great Aunt Ida:
As a vehicle for Vancouver-based pianist and songwriter, Ida Nilsen, Great Aunt Ida has existed in various shapes and places since 2003, releasing 4 acclaimed albums during that time. Influenced by a variety of genres but rooted in the popular song, Nilsen's writing has been called “intimate and honest”, “warm and spare,” “bordering on misanthropic”, and “somehow unlike any other girl/piano combo.” Returning to the music world after 4 years in architecture school, Great Aunt Ida's new material reflects on grief, change, connection, and the spaces that hold feelings. The sound of your childhood doorbell meets reaching for the high notes at karaoke. electron. conveyor. www.greatauntida.com (http://www.greatauntida.com/)@great.aunt.ida
About Ben Schillaci:
Ben’s songs are homespun, ambitious in trajectory, and heartfelt.
His music has drawn comparisons to anyone from Beck, to Paul Simon, to “Hamilton’s Mac Demarco.” His past projects include Dizzy Spells and Twin Within. Whether he's DIY recording his latest songs in his bedroom, skateboarding down the streets of Hamilton or busking, Ben Schillaci finds a way to make it his own.
