Bird Angel Island

Angel Island is a beautiful place to experience a wide variety of Bay Area birds, including woodpeckers, flycatchers, raptors, & seabirds.

Angel Island is a beautiful place to hear and see a wide variety of Bay Area birds, including woodpeckers, flycatchers, raptors, seabirds, and more. You'll also learn about the island's unique history and diverse habitats from a former employee and island resident. Birders of all abilities are welcome.
We'll bird a loop about 1.5 to 2 miles, along a partially paved trail. The trail includes dirt sections with uneven surfaces and some moderately steep sections, including uneven stairs with no handrail. We'll stop for a snack around halfway and will arrive back at the ferry dock by 2 pm.
There are flush toilets, drinking water, and a small café at the trailhead on Angel Island. There are no facilities along the route. Dress in layers and bring a water bottle, sunscreen, snacks, and binoculars if you have them. If you need binoculars, let us know on the registration form.
Directions from San Francisco: Take the 10:15 am Golden Gate Ferry from Gate B at the San Francisco Ferry Building. Once on Angel Island, we'll meet at 10:45 am at the large "Welcome" sign at the ferry dock. The return ferry leaves Angel Island at 3:20 pm, arriving in SF at 3:50 pm. (There is also a later ferry leaving the island at 4:50 pm.)

No ferry reservations are required. For payment, you simply tap a credit card or Clipper card as you board, or purchase tickets at the Ferry Building on the day of your visit. Directions from Tiburon: Take the 10 am Angel Island Tiburon Ferry. Once on Angel Island, we'll meet at 10:45 am at the large "Welcome" sign at the ferry dock. The Return ferry leaves Angel Island at 2:20 pm, arriving in Tiburon at 2:35 pm. (There are also later ferries at 3:20, 4:20, and 5:20.)
