About this Event
Please note that this is a 2-part workshop. Part 1 is January 7th and Part 2 is January 14th. Both sessions are 6:30-8:30PM.
Join us for a two day interactive Bioplastic and Jewelry Making Workshop, an exciting dive into the world of accessible biomaterials. Explore and experiment with DIY compostable bioplastic recipes, and create your own unique, eco-friendly jewelry pieces.
Relax, get creative, and uncover the potential of sustainable materials in a fun, inspiring environment. Bring a piece of jewelry or an accesory for inspiration!
This is a workshop for those who are interested in the intersection of art and science. This workshop is developed specifically to be accessible to people with no scientific background or artistic experience. The intention is to spend time together as a group creating fun and objects while learning about sustainable materials.
Come as you are- all tools and supplies will be provided. Each participant will be able to bring home their creations!
In this workshop you will:
- Learn about the environmental benefits of bioplastics and their role in sustainability.
- Explore current innovations and applications of bioplastics in design and art.
- Learn a variety of bioplastic recipes and how to tweak ingredients to achieve desired textures.
- Develop hands-on skills in crafting with bioplastics.
Agenda:
Day 1
-Quick introductions 15 min
-30 minPowerPoint presentation on biomaterials, sharing recipes, techniques and applications for different textures and properties, drying techniques, possible applications)
-1hr. Studio time - making 6 types of bioplastics under instructor's supervision.
-15 minutes. Clean up and store.
Day 2
-20 min. Powerpoint presentation on designing with biomaterials.
- 1.20min min Jewelry making technique and material acquaintance. Studio workshop/active making. Instructor comes around to answer questions and troubleshoot challenges.
- 20 minutes. Work documentation, reflection + clean up.
Participants will be provided with a link to material and recipe documentation that they can use to continue working on bioplastic projects.
About the Instructor
Anastasiya (Nastya) Yatsuk is an artist and materials researcher from Brooklyn, NY working at the intersection of design and synthetic biology, she is dedicated to creating sustainable futures through innovative manufacturing practices and community development. Her interdisciplinary approach seamlessly integrates ecological responsibility with technological advancement.
