About this Event
You will be amazed as every movement of water created by you, your paddle craft, and swimming sea creatures produces a stunning fluorescent glow! Jumping mullet look like underwater fireworks, and your splashing paddle is like neon paint splatter! This is a night paddle on the Space Coast, one of the few places on earth this occurs - no need to travel to Puerto Rico or Thailand! The beautiful, vibrant trail of light is created by tiny natural organisms called dinoflagellates that thrive during the warmest summer months, making this a short and sweet seasonal tour. This adventure is super unique, will captivate and leave you buzzing for days!
We’ll meet at the park during sunset, where you’ll be greeted by our friendly instructors and fitted with quality stand up paddleboarding gear. Upon gathering the group and enjoying the vibrant colors of the sun dropping down into the water, you'll be given a safety briefing, and launch into the beautiful Indian River at dark. We’ll paddle leisurely to Horseshoe Crab Island experiencing the magic of bioluminescence from our boards. Then we’ll stop to stretch our legs on the beach, relax with a beverage, and splash around in the shallows, watching our bodies transform into glowing vessels flowing in the water. We'll launch again, paddling around the island, and looping back through the lagoon like primitive explorers through the night.
What's Included:
- 2 hr Guided Eco Tour by experienced and certified guides/instructors
- Tour Photos
- Quality Stand Up Paddleboard Rental Gear (kayak seat option available for sit-down paddlers)
- Glow Stick
- Inclusive Paddle Tribe
Other Ticket Options: BYOPaddle Craft for a Discount. All paddle craft welcome.
Tour Duration: 2 hours, about 2 mi. This paddle is all about enjoying the bioluminescence and is not a fast-paced or endurance event. We also stop to relax at an island, so we won't be paddling the entire time. *Although we try to stick to our schedule, the end time is subject to change depending on the pace of the group.
Time: Meet at 8p to launch by 8:30p. If you're bringing your own gear (especially inflatables), please arrive as early as needed so you will be ready on time.
All Ages and Paddle Craft Welcome. Kids 12 and under may ride along free with an experienced adult. Children must wear a lifevest and although we have a few sizes, it is recommended to bring their own to ensure the most comfortable fit.
Paddling Skill Level: Intermediate. Previous stand up paddleboarding experience is recommended to ensure confidence in paddling in the dark for an enjoyable experience. To schedule a Was'SUP?! Beginner's lesson before this event, please call/text Jessica at 850-445-8348. All participants must know how to swim and be confident on the water.
Bring: Water, towel, dry bag, dry change of clothes, beverages/snacks. If you're bringing your own paddle craft, a life vest, light and whistle are required by law.
Wear: Clothing that is easy to move in and can get wet (like dry wicking workout clothes or swimwear, and bug spray. There are no-see-ums and some mosquitos - we recommend wearing lightweight long sleeves and pants to keep covered.
Meeting Point/Parking: When you turn into Parrish Park off of Max Brewer Hwy, you have to go left. Immediately on the right is a grass lot - this is our meeting and launching location. However, the main parking lot is just past it. Please park on the east side of the main lot (which is closest to the grass lot), then walk to meet us at the grass lot. When you arrive, look for us with a silver enclosed trailer and be sure to check in with Wave of Wellness as there are several companies operating from the same location. If you are bringing your own gear, you may pull into the grass lot to unload and then move your vehicle to the main lot.
Bathroom: The bathrooms and port-o-lets are also on the east side of the main parking lot - please use these first before walking to meet us at the grass lot.
***Because we can't control nature, bioluminescence visibility is not guaranteed. It is a floating algae that is highly effected by weather like wind, rain, and temperature. However, we take you where it's most consistently concentrated and brightest, therefore the location and date of our tour is subject to change - you'll be notified of any changes via email.
IMPORTANT: In the event of inclement weather, you will be notified via Eventbrite email at least 3 hours prior to start time of a reschedule. We only reschedule so your experience will be safe and enjoyable.
