About this Event
About Bio-Ceramics Material Making Workshop
Curious about biomaterials, circular design, or just love rolling up your sleeves and making things?
This hands-on workshop invites you to step into the world where science, craft, and sustainability meet.
In this session, you’ll:
Experiment like a biodesigner - learn how biology and material science can be playful tools for design.
🥚 Transform eggshells into biocomposites - repurpose a humble kitchen byproduct into a strong, beautiful material.
Play with colour & texture - explore natural dyes and surface finishes to personalise your creations.
Make and shape - learn how to fabricate moulds to cast your biocomposite into unique objects like coasters.
We’ll balance theory and making: you’ll understand the role of waste in material innovation while experimenting with tactile processes and creative design outcomes.
By the end, you’ll take home:
• A one-of-a-kind object made by you
• New skills in biomaterial making
• Fresh ideas for circular design and waste-to-resource thinking

Meet your instructor
Weronika Turowska is a biodesigner and material researcher interested in regenerative design principles, innovation, and environmental, cultural storytelling. At Blunik Studio, Weronika experiments with living and circular materials, often drawing from biological processes, craft traditions, and waste streams. Her work seeks to create objects and systems that not only reduce environmental impact but also spark new narratives about our relationship with matter, microbes, and making.
She has led workshops exploring biodesign and sensory engagement with science, and her work has been exhibited internationally at the New European Bauhaus in Brussels, London Design Festival, Biofabricate, and Lethaby Gallery.

About Lifefabs Institute: Biofabrication Lab & Community-led Research Centre
Lifefabs is an open-access biofabrication space that provides graduates, creatives, schools, communities and scientists access to scientific learning and exchange knowledge around biofabrication.
We want to break down barriers to research and STEAM learning, offering a space to learn, experiment and contribute to our understanding of biomaterials and bioengineering. A space for interdisciplinary knowledge exchange, Lifefabs encourages non-scientists, local communities to feel welcome and be curious about Biodesign, promoting accessibility though hands-on community lab.
