Join us for the Bill Withers Statue Unveiling Ceremony and the official opening of Bill Withers Plaza. The ceremony will include speakers and music from noon to 1 pm at the plaza located on top of the Beckley Intermodal Gateway on Neville Street.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to or supported this exciting project.
Bill was born in Slab Fork and raised in Beckley. He attended Stratton High School and served in the Navy. Bill won three Grammy awards and was honored on three Halls of Fame. He is known for timeless songs such as Lean on Me, Lovely Day, Ain't No Sunshine, Just the Two of Us, Grandma's Hands and more.
The Bill Withers Plaza will include the statue/monument by Frederick Hightower, plus interpretive signage, musical playground equipment, and more items are planned.
