On Sunday, February 8, 2026, Bill Peterson and Friends will be playing fiddle tunes and talking about the traditions and culture from the Shetland Islands. Admission is free, but freewill donations are encouraged. The Shetland Islands are off the coast of Scotland. Peterson along with his musical partners and traveling companions traveled there to learn about their wonderful fiddle traditions and culture. They plan to have a slide show running while they play the tunes.
Peterson and friends have traveled to different fiddling meccas in Europe, Canada and the United States. He has been to Ireland, Scotland, Shetland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Cape Breton in Canada to study different fiddling cultures and to play music with the locals. He has attended the “American Festival of Fiddle Tunes” in Port Townsend, Washington twice and many other festivals and concerts around the country.
An article in the South Dakota Magazine stated, “Along with friends and apprentices, Peterson is continuing the centuries old style of Missouri Valley bluegrass music that has evolved through generations of musicians.” Peterson is from Canton, South Dakota and has been fiddling for over 40 years and plays Scandinavian, Celtic and old-time fiddle tunes.
