The Actors' and Entertainers' Benevolent Fund Qld (ABF Qld) was established in 1975 with a donation of $500 from the Actors’ Benevolent Fund of NSW. Since then, the volunteer committee of ABF Qld has assisted - and continues to assist - Queensland performers and arts workers who have fallen on hard times.

The late Alan Edwards AM MBE JP was the inaugural and Founding President of ABF Qld. He was also the founding Artistic Director of Queensland Theatre Company. Alan Edwards was involved with ABF Qld for over twenty years and served as President from 1975 – 1994.

The Alan Edwards Lifetime Achievement Award was established in 2002 and honours Alan's memory.

The Award is presented annually to a performing arts professional who has contributed significantly to the industry, often above and beyond the call of duty.

This year's recipient is Bill Haycock.
