About this Event

Discover the joy of sculpting with clay as you create your own miniature ceramic bird artwork in this relaxed, hands-on workshop. Guided by Brisbane artist Sean Gordon of Green Bird Ceramics, you’ll learn traditional hand-building techniques including pinching and sculpting to build a bird full of character.

Sean will demonstrate the foundations of creating a bird form before helping you develop your own unique design. Whether you’re inspired by a favourite Australian bird or want to create something more playful and imaginative, you’ll receive individual guidance throughout the workshop to bring your idea to life.

You’ll also create a small ceramic stand for your bird to perch on before adding decorative underglaze accents or selecting a glaze colour for Sean to professionally finish after the workshop. As a final touch, you’ll be encouraged to add your own maker’s mark to the base, celebrating your finished piece as a unique work of art.

Once glazed, kiln-fired and mounted, your sculpture will become a distinctive miniature artwork to display at home or in your workspace.

Who should attend?

Suitable for ages 16+.

No prior ceramics experience is required. Whether you’re trying clay for the first time or looking to develop your hand-building skills, you’ll be guided through the process of creating your own unique bird sculpture.

What's included?

All materials, tools and tuition are provided. Each participant will create their own hand-built miniature bird sculpture and matching ceramic stand. After the workshop, Sean will professionally glaze, kiln-fire and mount each bird before it is ready for collection from artisan approximately four weeks later.

What should I bring and wear?

All materials and tools are provided. Wear comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting a little clay on, and we recommend removing jewellery before the workshop.

Meet Sean Gordon // Green Bird Ceramics

Green Bird Ceramics is the practice of Brisbane-based artist Sean Gordon, originally from Scotland. A self-taught ceramic artist, Sean creates hand-built bird-inspired sculptures and functional ceramics that blend colour, character and humour with a focus on self-expression. His work is shaped by a queer, neurodivergent perspective and a lifelong fascination with birds, celebrating their individuality and unmistakable personalities.

Working entirely by hand, Sean encourages creativity through traditional clay techniques and believes anyone can experience the joy of making something meaningful. Every Green Bird Ceramics piece is produced in small batches with a commitment to sustainability, celebrating individuality, creativity and the natural world.

Workshop Cancellation Policy:
Please note this workshop can be cancelled by artisan due to unforeseen circumstances or if minimum numbers are not reached - this decision is made between 2-7 days before the workshop date so don't delay in buying your ticket! In the event of the workshop being cancelled by artisan, participants will be refunded in full and as soon as possible.

Participant Cancellation Policy:
Workshops have limited spaces and involve preparation by the facilitator. Bookings cancelled up to two weeks prior to the start of the workshop may be refunded, but a 20% non-refundable administration fee will be deducted. Bookings cancelled within two weeks of the workshop commencing will not be refunded. Refunds are to be processed by the attendee through Humanitix.

Workshop Transfer Policy:
