Bike ride to Shirley Chisholm State Park

We're riding 15 miles to Shirley Chisholm State Park, which itself has 10 miles of bikeable trails (2.5 miles paved asphalt, the remainder is gravel).

We're starting in Bay Ridge, and pick up additional riders in Bath Beach and Sheepshead Bay. In Sheepshead, we'll stop at Jimmy's Famous Heroes for anyone that wants to pick up picnic sammies to take to the park! (Otherwise, be sure to bring your own snacks)

We'll plan on spending around 2.5 to 3 hours at the park before heading back.

Bring: a bike lock, water, lunch/snacks (or get some at the sandwich shop in Sheepshead Bay)

Challenge rating: Medium from Bay Ridge/Bath Beach, medium-easy from Sheepshead Bay

Overall trip distance: 15 miles each way, plus the park's 10+ miles of bike paths

Distance on greenway / protected bike lanes / low-traffic roads: 13 miles each way

Distance on sub-standard or non-existent bicycle infrastructure: 2 miles each way

Pace: average around 10 miles per hour (faster on the greenways, slower on streets)

Terrain: flat, except for bridges over Jamaica Bay inlets and the gravel paths at the park

Meet up at: Bay Ridge's 69th Steet pier at 11am. Rollout time is 11:15am.

Meet us along the way: We'll pick up riders in Bath Beach (about 11:45an, exact location TBD, somewhere near Bay Parkway) and Sheepshead Bay (about 12:15pm at Jimmy's Heroes - 1786 Sheepshead Bay Rd). Please RSVP and email us at [email protected] and let us know you plan on joining the ride there!
