This is a full day's tour with 3 breaks. An exceptional adventure led by Simon Head - with improvements!
This tour includes 2 Landmarks near Llanberis for anyone taking part. These are related to the Cwm-y-glo explosive disaster which occurred in 1869 - but it's the journey that's the adventure and is open to all!
We will be leaving by the M56 leaving at Junction 7 and heading down the A556 right to the A49 junction (with the shell garage on the corner) at Sandiway.
We head down to Whitchurch, taking the A525 for a short and then the A495 to Ellesmere for a short comfort stop by the lake (a familiar stopping point!)
We take the A495 to the A483, by passing Oswestry, with a short run back on the A495 and then picking up the B4396. This is a beautiful road which then runs into the B4391which takes us over to Bala. From Bala we set off on the A4212 for a short while and then taking the B4501 which takes us to the A5
The A5 is a famous road- having been built by Thomas Telford in the early 19th century to improve communication with Ireland from London. At this time, before division in 1922 Ireland was a British protectrate.
We head to Capel Curig where we stop for lunch at Caffi Siabod for lunch.
When we leave we turn down the A4086 which takes us past the base of Snowdon via Pen-Y-Pas. This takes us into Llanberis and LMC 1, after the end of the lake. We will either park on the road or a turning very close depending upon how busy this road is. When I was there it was not too busy.
From here we will go to LMC2. This is a bit difficult as it is on a single track road.
After LMC2 we head back to Caffi Siabod for an ice cream, via the A5, Bethesda and the Nant Ffrancon Pass. We pass the base of Tryfan.
From here we carry on the A5 until we reach Cerrigydrudion where we take the B5105 to Ruthin then the A494A5118/A5104 to the A55
We head home via the A51/A54/A556 tracing our route back eventually to where we started.
An exceptional tour
