Bible in Context: The Gospel of John Series
Up front, this is not a typical Sunday School lesson: no sacred cows, tribal lines, or denominational dogmas. The intention is to study ancient Scriptures within their historical context and uncover where Science meets Spirit in our here and now.
For this series, we are slowing down and zooming in on John's Gospel.
In the first class, we cover the world of the first century and Israel’s context under Roman rule, and look at how the first five verses challenged many assumptions of the first-century world.
We pick up from there in this class and cover the rest of John’s introduction. John sets his premise in this section and begins weaving together patterns that run through the rest of his book. John suggests that—even in the shadows of a Roman Caesar—real light, life, and love can pop up anywhere.
