Friday, December 12th, from 6-8 pm, we’ll be at the Neighborhood Church for our final meetup of the year as well as holding a winter clothes and food drive for Sol Underground/Sol Below! Take a breather from the end of the year chaos, bring along whatever (non-messy) art or craft you’d like to work on, and hang out with us at the Commons room at Neighborhood Church in Candler Park. We’ll bring snacks and will probably get a pizza or two depending on the size of our group.
For the winter clothes and food drive: clean out your closet or grab a few extras from your next thrift haul of some clean winter clothes in good condition. Warm blankets are also very much needed! For the food, please bring shelf stable foods, ideally ones that don’t require a bunch of extra ingredients or equipment. Think pop top lids instead of ones that require can openers, macaroni and cheese mixes that have the cheese sauce packs instead of the powder that calls for milk and butter. We will be rounding up all our donations and bringing them to Sol Underground/Sol Below, the good folks who provide community-created warming stations for unhoused Atlantans and who also run a free store every 1st, 2nd, and 4th Friday of the month. They do wonderful mutual aid projects like this and more, and you can learn about them and other ways to support them at https://www.saintsol.org
You are welcome to either spend some time with us or do a quick drop off! This is indoors and a masks required event unless drinking/snacking; if you don’t have a mask we can provide one!
Neighborhood Church is in the Candler Park neighborhood and is at 1561 McLendon Ave NE, Atlanta GA 30306. The church’s parking lot is located off of Mell Ave and there is also two accessible parking spots in front of the church. This location is also a few blocks from MARTA’s Candler Park/Edgewood station. The wheelchair accessible entrance is in the back of the church and that will be the entrance we’ll use— follow the ramp.
