Bhaat Laavni - Rice Farming with the Adivasis in Mumbai

Every monsoon, the Adivasi community of Aarey Colony returns to their fields for Bhaat Laavni — the sacred, back-breaking, joyful act of planting rice. We join them in the mud, hands in the soil, learning directly from the people who have farmed this land for centuries. From a single grain to the rice on your plate, the journey is longer and harder than most of us will ever know — and there are people we rarely stop to thank for it
Walk through their village, sit inside kaccha homes built from the forest itself, hear about a way of life built entirely on what the land gives — and the very real ways it is under threat. End the morning with a fresh breakfast sourced from their own backyard and a hot cup of gavthi chaha that tastes like nothing else
