Grinder at Battlegrounds to Board Games
The Cost for the event will be $15 per person.
The Grinder will be for 6 hours this time. During which time we will take out people leaving, and add in people who are joining in. If you need to leave, please contact the TO so they may decide to award a K*ll to a pilot who has dealt damage to you before you go. If you return, you will not pay again but you will come in at the same level that you were
when you left.
Grinder uses all standard rules from the Battlemech Manual.
As always, you will get a "Grinder Pilot Card" which tracks your progress so you can come and go as time allows. This is also how you track the number of kills you get in the Grinder. If you get a K*ll, confirm with the TO and they will award you a random mech salvage box for each K*ll you are responsible for. If a K*ll is not clear, ask the TO and they will make a ruling. This year for the 2025 season, you can hold onto your sheet at the end of the Grinder. If you show up to the next Grinder and you still have your sheet, then you can start at your previous mech level instead of starting back at Purple (Recruit)
K*ll Conditions: You are killed if any of the following are true.
Cockpit destroyed
Head blown off
Pilot killed by pilot wounds
2 gyro hits
3 engine hits
3 limbs destroyed
All internal structure in the CT destroyed
Unable to inflict 5 points of weapon damage
2 sensor hits.
All Supplies are provided: All record sheets are in sheet protectors or laminated and we use wet-erase markers on them. We will provide a mini, dice, and the charts and tables that are needed for game play but all these must be returned when you are leaving the table. You are welcome to bring your own 2D6 rolling dice but be advised that others at the table may request to use them (per the Catalyst Demo Team Dice Policy).
We will use 4'x6' mats and try to pair up experience level with difficulty of map if possible. We will try to keep each table at about 8 players per table but no more than 10 players per table.
How it works
You start with Purple (Recruit) level mech and when you die you move up to the next level which contains mechs more advanced equipment. The highest level is Red (Elite) and this contains the most powerful mechs. Through this progression you learn how to use all the common equipment in Battletech. This game is not paused or restarted, we will simply add/remove players at the beginning of the next turn and then continue play without resetting the board. you will receive a pilot card as a way to track and save your progress in case you need to leave and come back later to continue playing.
All ability levels are welcome.
Game Play
Randomly Picked Mechs: When you join in the Grinder you will roll a die at the first level and that will randomly determine which mech you will use. Once you have played through all levels of the Grinder you will then start over at the beginning level and be able to pick which mech you want to use.
Spawn locations: on the maps there will be numbered tokens. When a new player joins in they roll a die to determine which of the spawn locations on the map their mech will come in on.
Card Initiative: We will write a player’s name on a plastic playing card and then shuffle and deal out cards to determine initiative then in reverse for firing order.
