Beyond the Page with Artist Lin Snow

We are very excited to welcome Lin Snow to our forestART programming. In this class you will learn how to book-bind your own sketchbook, learn several conventional and unconventional art-making techniques within that sketchbook, and integrate a wonderfully therapeutic sketchbooking habit into your life.
The art of sketchbooking is for anyone: in any career, any creativity level, any gender, any age, etc.! It’s an inexpensive and unpretentious way to be creative while simultaneously practicing self care. The world is so fast paced nowadays it is not uncommon to forget to take a moment to breathe. For me that is what my time in my sketchbook is. Time to look and see what's around me, maybe doodle it, or capture that moment. A tid-bit of mindful-ness and a moment of quiet.
This class will take on a less structured style where the student chooses the type of experience they get out of the class. Lin will be present and ready for folks who would like a more guided and instructional hands-on experience. She will also be there if a student is in need of a gentle push out into an unknown creative dimension. There will be moments of gathering and collaboration and creative exercises along with many scheduled but optional creative opportunities that students can cherry pick from. Generally she wants to be there for her students, offer helpful insight, and share her 20+ years of sketchbooking knowledge. Lin’s goal is for her students to leave this class with a confidence and openness within their own creativity and sketchbooking abilities that they can carry with them for years to come.
Students will also be going home with a mini travel watercolour set to go along with their sketchbook and an instructional zine to help them remember how to make their next sketchbook!

About Your Host
Lin Snow grew up rural livin' in New Hampshire and is now freelance illustrating in Maine full time. She majored in Illustration at Maine College of Art & Design where she graduated with honors and took full advantage of the many different departments the school had to offer.
Inspirations and aesthetics that currently drive Lin’s work include nature, folk, medieval, retro, & kitsch. A huge theme within her practice and pieces is eco-mindedness; she often utilizes second hand or recycled materials. Lin loves creating in several mediums: from experimental to classics, usually leaning toward tacticality over technology. Although she uses many methods, her work can be easily recognized by the distinct mark-making, and staple color palette of hazy warm atmospheres. Lin has been busy illustrating children’s picture books, creating visual art for musicians, and wiggling her way into the world of murals. She is looking forward to driving cross country to her third international EMMA Collaboration in Saskatchewan, Canada this summer.
