Beyond the Flesh

A mystic-minimalist, Zen practitioner, yogi, and dreamworker, Braden arrived at drawing later in life, beginning her practice at the age of 50. Before any formal training, her true art education unfolded during seven formative years working as a guard and bookseller at the Walker Art Center — a period of deep, sustained looking that continues to shape her visual vocabulary. Her contribution to Ritual of Returning includes the complete Six Chakras pastel series, six luminous thresholds rendered on black Arches paper, alongside BLACK LOVE, a hand-drawn book combining charcoal, pastel, and photographs into a quietly devotional cosmology.

My paintings are place mats, the whole room on the plate. I want an all over at once look at what I’ll be eating. My aim is to show connectedness where fronts and backs merge and blur like feelings: chosen, random, severe. Through this practice I paint mankind in its environment social, political.
