Beyond the Brush: HQ is back again for 2026!Beyond the Brush: Easter ‘26 is going to be bigger than ever! We have some awesome sponsors and judges lined up, with more announcements to come so make sure to save the date, as it's going to be an amazing day to share the hobby you love with the local community.

We want to continue to celebrate all the hobbyists in our community, so we are so stoked to bring back the historical Scale Model and Gunpla categories, so if you're a gunpla or scale modeller this competition is for you too!
Remember - Beyond the Brush HQ is FREE to enter, so why not see what you’re made of? Our painting community is diverse, passionate and knowledgeable - there’s no better opportunity to hone those skills and have some fun.
Dates:
We can accept entries until 10am Sunday 12th of April (day of comp).
Award Ceremony at 3.00pm.
$30 Beyond Gift Vouchers and specific hobby products (TBA) for the Winners in each category, a Best in Show award selected from amongst the winners of each category, plus a Door Prize at the Awards Ceremony to one lucky participant just for entering!
Lastly, the Winner of the Masters category will assist us to choose the next Masters Mini!
Categories:
Large Miniature or Vehicle:
Any single large miniature or Vehicle, mounted on an appropriately sized base.
Single Miniature:
Any single humanoid-sized miniature mounted on an appropriately sized base.
Squad/Unit Category:
Any squads or warbands of three or more models.
Military Vehicle Scale Model Category: Any scale model that is a historically accurate representation of a war vehicle i.e. planes, boats, tanks, transports etc.
Civilian Vehicle Scale Model Category: Any scale model that is a historically accurate representation of a real world vehicle i.e. planes, boats, bikes, cars etc.
Gundam: Any scale, single model Gunpla. Judges will be looking closely at construction, painting, and creativity.
Youngbloods: This category is open to any competitors aged 14 years or under. Any entry is allowed to be entered but must be no larger than 30mmx30mmx30mm.
Open Category/Diorama/Special Skill:
Any painting or hobby piece that showcases a special skill i.e. dioramas, kit-bashing, busts, lighting, animatronics or a unique painting technique. Entries must be no larger than 45cmx45cmx45cm.
Masters Category:
This category is the greatest test of your painting skill. All entrants will paint the same single miniature. No other model is allowed. No conversions are allowed and the model must be based on the base supplied. These restrictions put the focus entirely on the painting. THIS YEAR'S MODEL IS THE …“Bretonnian Questing Knight” from the Old World! Please note: no conversions or excessive basing is acceptable. This category is judged based soley on your painting technique and skill.
Please note, Judges will be looking not only for technical ability, but also for entries that best exemplify the qualities and character of the army, setting or world they represent. Therefore it is not simply painting skill on show, but broader creativity and the ability to capture tone and mood. So why not give it a go?

-We reserve the right to recategorise any entry that we deem to be a better fit with a category other than the one it was entered into.
-Nudity and sexually explicit content is strictly prohibited, our store and this event is family friendly. We reserve the right to refuse entry of any piece that breaches our Code of Conduct.
-Swastika Symbol Display:
The Swastika may ONLY be displayed on a military model if it is both historically accurate AND supported by historical reference. Failure to adhere to this rule will result in the immediate disqualification of the model and will not be displayed in our competition.
-Late entries will not be accepted.
-1x entry per category, per person.
