About this Event
As part of our 30th Anniversary programming, New Earth Theatre is holding a symposium to consider what it means to โdecoloniseโ theatremaking, and share some of the questions we have encountered and the strategies we have developed in our mission to create anti-racist and globally inclusive theatre.
This symposium consists of two parts:
- A panel discussion on Decolonising Theatremaking with industry-leading global majority theatre leaders , Shabina Aslam (Artistic Director, Theatre in the Mill), Dr. Broderick Chow (Director of Learning, Teaching and Inclusion, Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Pooja Ghai (Artistic Director, Tamasha), Tarek Iskander (Artistic Director, Battersea Arts Centre), Taio Lawson (Artistic Director, Bush Theatre) and Chinonyerem Odimba (Artistic Director, tiata fahodzi).
The panel will be organised around specific questions that New Earth Theatre has encountered in the development of our recent work, with the aim of providing broader context and generating dialogue between key global majority companies and artists dealing with similar questions.
- A Work-in-Progress Sharing of 3 short extracts of early-stage work developed by New Earth Theatre (in partnership with Headlong, Fengling and Shakespeare's Globe), framed by some discussion and context on our specific approach to decolonisation and change-making through each piece. Audience members will be given dialogue prompts to generate reflection and discussion between each piece.
