Beyond Godolphin: The Hank Jones Story
About this Event
A Q&A after the film features Filmmaker and Director Kevin MacLean in person with Hank Jones on Zoom. Local San Leandran Chad Pennebaker, who has known Hank and Dean since they were kids, will also join the discussion.
Magical moments abound in this story of the life of legendary Disney character actor and singer Hank Jones. From Hank’s early years and singing career through his TV shows and classic Disney films, this documentary is a mid-century pop culture time capsule sure to fascinate both young and old.
Hank grew up in San Leandro with his close friend Dean Kay. They formed the Hank and Dean singing duo when they were in college. Dean went on to a storied career as a singer and songwriter (notably, That’s Life, sung by Frank Sinatra), and music publisher.
After a bit part in a film, Hank was hooked by acting. His eight Disney Studio films included roles as Gudger Larkin in Blackbeard’s Ghost, as Sir Lancelot in Herbie Rides Again, and Officer in The Cat From Outer Space. His twenty-year acting career included parts in numerous TV sit-coms such as My Three Sons and dozens of films, such as Tora! Tora! Tora!
A prolific animator with 30 years in the business, artist Kevin Maclean has contributed to celebrated animated films such as modern day classics Frozen, Zootopia, Moana, Encanto, and Kung Fu Panda. His love for classic Disney live action films brought about this heartfelt tribute to a Disney original.Registration is not required, but registering ensures a seat.
