Beyond Collage: is where mindfulness meets creativity.
About this Event
Celebrate Black History Month with a creative twist.
In this special edition of Beyond Collage: Mindfulness Meets Creativity, we explore the beauty, versatility and cultural significance of Black hair through pattern, colour, texture and collage.
I have always been fascinated by the many ways hair can be styled, and Black hair is particularly inspiring because of its unique textures, forms and incredible versatility. During the session, I will demonstrate a simple ink and bleach technique that we will use to create expressive patterns inspired by beautiful Black hairstyles.
We will also explore the bold colours and intricate patterns associated with traditional wax fabrics. Using acrylic markers on brightly coloured paper, you will create your own interpretation of these vibrant textile-inspired designs, developing patterns, textures and details that reflect your own creativity.
You will be provided with silhouette figures to work from, allowing you to experiment freely with your designs before bringing everything together through collage. Your finished composition will be yours to take home.
And, of course, we will have some good music playing while we work.
This workshop is about more than creating something beautiful. It is an invitation to slow down, become absorbed in the creative process and give yourself permission to switch off from the stresses of everyday life.
Come, create, explore and relax as we find that sweet spot between being mindfully present and creatively switched on.
Beyond Collage: Mindfulness Meets Creativity — Black History Month Edition.
The workshop is led by Azaria Ledeatte-Williams, who developed this creative approach during the 2020 lockdown. While the world slowed down, art became a way to stay present, process emotions, and find moments of calm amidst uncertainty. Beyond Collage has grown from that experience into a practice centred on creativity, mindfulness and self-expression.
With over 18 years' experience working in secondary education, Azaria has dedicated her career to nurturing confidence through creativity. She believes everyone has the ability to create meaningful art, it simply needs the right environment, gentle encouragement, and the freedom to explore without judgement.
Beyond Collage is also an opportunity to meet new people in a relaxed and welcoming space, while discovering more of yourself through the creative process.
If you choose to return, each workshop becomes part of a unique handmade folding book that gradually unfolds into a personal visual story, a beautiful record of your creative journey over time.
If you would prefer a one-off experience, you will complete, frame, and take home your finished artwork as a lasting reminder of the time you gave yourself to pause, create, and simply be.
Beyond Collage is more than making art. It is making space, for curiosity, for calm, for connection, and for the parts of yourself that are waiting to be discovered.
