About this Event
This is a free hybrid workshop sponsored by the Arizona Biomedical Research Centre (ABRC) in collaboration with NAU's Center for Health Equity Research (CHER).
Workshop Overview:
Join world renowned speakers who will address the complex interplay between adiposity, weight stigma, and their impact on disease risk factors. Topics include BMI's history and its misuse, the limitations of using weight as a proxy for health, approaching the topic of weight with your patients, and the health implications of weight stigma, and body oppression. We'll address the intersection of culture and weight, shedding light on racial and ethnic challenges. This conference aims to foster a greater understanding and application of weight-inclusive paradigms, which promote more compassionate, evidence-based healthcare practices for all. A panel of allied health professionals will share their experiences and strategies for addressing weight concerns with their clients while minimizing shame and judgment.
