Beyond Black Friday | A Conscious Consumption Movement

This Black Friday, we’re challenging the status quo. Instead of promoting overconsumption, Patagonia Cape Town and Fashion Revolution South Africa are coming together to host Beyond Black Friday: A Conscious Consumption Movement—a three-day campaign dedicated to reshaping how we think about fashion, sustainability, and the environment.

Join us for a thought-provoking evening featuring the screening of The Shittroporocene, a film that delves into the environmental and social impacts of consumerism. This film will set the stage for an engaging discussion about how our lifestyle and fashion choices affect the planet.

Following the screening, we’ll host a Q&A and discussion with industry experts and sustainability advocates from Fashion Revolution, Fred Rich, Patagonia, Twyg, and more. We’ll explore how conscious consumption, upcycling, and sustainable fashion practices can challenge the fast fashion narrative.

On Black Friday, instead of shopping, we’re encouraging you to step outside, explore, and reconnect with nature. Take a break from the noise of consumerism, enjoy the fresh air, and embrace the simple joy of the outdoors. Whether it’s a hike, a beach walk, or just spending time in your favorite green space, let’s use this day to celebrate the natural world we’re working to protect.

On Black Friday weekend, we're bringing the spirit of sustainability to life with a series of interactive in-store activities.

• Mending Stations: In partnership with local artisans and upcyclers, we’ll offer mending and repair stations to give your well-loved gear a new lease on life. Bring your worn-out items and learn how to repair them, with guidance from our volunteers and partners. 10:00 - 13:00.

• Merch Made from Recycled Gear: Explore our new collection made entirely from Patagonia gear that could no longer be repaired. See how damaged products have been transformed, and learn about the positive impact of repair and recycling in reducing waste.
• Stories We Wear: Share your connection with your favorite pieces of clothing by leaving a love note on our 'Stories We Wear' wall, celebrating the meaningful stories behind the clothes we choose to look after instead of discard.
• Clothing Swap: At 5pm, we’re hosting a clothing swap in collaboration with La Diosa Dance Company (10 Anson Street, Observatory). Trade in your gently worn items for something new-to-you and take a step toward a more circular fashion economy. As the swap will be taking place before their SBK dance social, feel free to join in for some Afro-Latin fun! There will be a R50 entrance fee for the swap, and R100 to participate in both the swap and dance social. Please RSVP for the Clothing Swap here.
