Between This Body and the World

Between This Body and the World explores the intersection of identity, history, and materiality. Drawing from personal and transnational experiences, the artist examines the body as both a vessel—literally through the use of his body as a painting tool—and a threshold, negotiating the tension between personal history and societal forces.

Central to the exhibition is latex, a metaphor for skin—both vulnerable and resilient. Latex evokes the history of rubber plantations during the French colonization of Vietnam, an echo of the artist's heritage, while also serving as a queer emblem of intimacy and sexual expression.

The recurring motif of doors and portals symbolizes thresholds of access and exclusion, critiquing colonial and queer histories, as well as the politics of belonging.
