"Between Earth and Sky" presents contemplative and affirming music addressing themes of place, community, environment, and aspiration. Singing works by Alex Berko, Ēriks Ešenvalds, Vivian Fung, Shara Nova, Sarah Hopkins, Ysaye Barnwell, and others. Concert Choir will be joined by instrumentalists with the addition of special lighting and imaginative use of space in the Recital Hall.The main work on the program is "Sacred Place" by Alex Berko. In describing the impetus for his composition, Alex describes his desire to address collective listening, connecting old with new, community, nature, compassion, listening to what the earth is saying, and the need for healing both for people and the earth. In a time of social and political tension, the concert experience will be a perfect way for performers and audience alike to take a moment to breathe and reflect on positive aspirations for all.
