About the Book:
When 18-year-old Derell moves from Jamaica to Toronto, he enters a high school driven by class and status and meets Amina, a gifted dancer torn between her heart and her wealthy family’s expectations. As Derell clashes with Malik, a flashy aspiring rapper who sees him as a threat, he’s forced to navigate a world obsessed with money and social standing. The story reflects the tensions and class divides within the Caribbean Canadian community, set against a Greater Toronto Area backdrop.
“A heartfelt story about courage, love, discrimination and finding your voice when the world feels unfamiliar.” – Sadé Smith, author of Julie and the Mango Tree
