“Best Practices in Captive Reptile Husbandry for 2026”

Mariah Healey, author of the ReptiFiles.com reptile care database, will give an overview of current best practices in reptile husbandry, addressing enclosure size and layout, lighting, heating, enrichment, and nutrition. The object of this presentation is to abolish prevailing misconceptions, help current reptile owners update their husbandry practices, and guide new keepers toward getting started on the right foot.
Healey is a professional reptile husbandry specialist and consultant, with over 10 years of experience in caring for reptiles of various species. To date, Mariah has written care resources for over 100 reptile species, two lectures for the Amphibian Foundation, and has also been interviewed as a guest in at least 22 podcast episodes. Mariah is currently working on her Master's in Zoo Science from West Liberty University.
