Best Barre None
About this Event
Agnes and Sasha have been pals since baby ballet. Ribbons, lights, tights – the lot. Now adults looking ‘En Dehors’ – outward – they’re on the cusp of a career of sacrifice, knowing their toughest competition stands right next to them. How can they step into their dream lives but still keep each other safe? And what does their studio’s old piano have to do with it?
‘Best Barre None’ is written and directed by Steph Wells and choreographed by Ellie Nicholson. Together they weave an experimental fusion of two forms of performance – the conventional play and the dance show. Interlaced in the show is original music written and performed on piano by Caitlyn Bogart.
Guests linked to Theatre Studies graduates or show members are warmly invited to a reception for drinks and nibbles in the foyer of Gilmorehill Halls from 5pm before the show. The Head of Theatre Studies, Professor Liz Tomlin, will say a few words of congratulations during this time. The show will commence at 6pm and last approximately 1 hour. Friends are welcome to join us for a post-show pint and afterparty at Bank Street to continue graduation celebrations.
We are honoured to have been awarded the Alasdair Cameron Scholarship by the Theatre Studies department at the University of Glasgow to fund this project. We’re so grateful to have their support and the opportunity to premiere this piece at the beautiful James Arnott Theatre, the heart of the Theatre Studies department at the University of Glasgow.
