About this Event
The Best Adapted Book Club focuses on books on their way to becoming award-season films. February's pick is Midwinter Break, Bernard MacLaverty's novel that was shortlisted for the 2019 International Dublin Literary Award.
A moving portrait of retired couple Gerry and Stella Gilmore's marriage in crisis, Bernard MacLaverty reminds us why he is regarded as one of the greatest living Irish writers. Through accurate, compassionate observation and effortlessly elegant writing, he reveals the long-unspoken insecurities that exist between Gerry and Stella over their four-day holiday in Amsterdam, crafting a profound examination of human love. The film is set to be released on February 20, 2026.
We will meet in person in the loft at our store at The Mark, 117 S. Pineapple Ave. The book club is $15.95, which is the cost of your copy of Midwinter Break to be picked up at Bookstore1 any time before our meeting.
