Discover 100 years of local South Asian American activist history on the streets of Berkeley! Immigrant feminists, freedom fighters and more
About this Event

Join us for an exciting exploration of 100 years of South Asian American activist history on the streets of Berkeley, California!

Community historians Barnali Ghosh and Anirvan Chatterjee bring South Asian American history to life on an engaging 2-mile walking tour (wheelchair/stroller accessible).

You'll visit original sites, hear stories, and come away inspired by the secret history of four generations of immigrant freedom fighters, feminists, and more.

Join us if you're interested in activism, want to go explore hidden Bay Area histories, or have roots in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, or other parts of South Asia or the diaspora.

The tour starts and ends in Downtown Berkeley, right next to BART, a safe parking garage, and lots of restaurants. Don't hesitate to contact us if you have logistical or content questions before you buy tickets.

Learn much more about the tour and the research behind it at . We've been featured in National Geographic and Atlas Obscura, selected as "Best of the East Bay," and awarded the national APIA Preservation Award.
