Bengali Heritage Guided Walk by Swadhinata Trust

This is a Banglatown Walk and Talk. It is aimed at anybody interested in Bengali migration and settlement in the East End of London. Participants will learn about the Bengali community’s history, heritage and cultural practices. They will discover the different values and customs of those with diverse backgrounds. The experiences of Bengalis in the East End will provide a concrete example of the value of multiculturalism as well as the tensions it creates. The walk/talk will look at the legacy of the British Empire and migration from the colonies. It explores how the population of Britain has become richer and more diverse in recent decades.
Meeting point: Shahid Minar (Martyrs Monument), Altab Ali Park, Adler Street/ Whitechapel High Street.
About the company: The Swadhinata Trust is a London based Bengali group. It promotes Bengali history and heritage. The Trust was established due to an absence of documentation representing Bengalis’ heritage.
