Benefits & Blessings for Ava Schexnider
Ava Schexnider, a bright and beloved member of our community, was seriously injured on October 16th when she was tragically run over by a vehicle — an accident that turned her family’s world upside down. In the blink of an eye, what should have been a night of Homecoming traditions and celebrations became the beginning of a long and difficult road to recovery.
Ava was taken by ambulance to Lake Charles Memorial Hospital before being life-flighted to Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge. Since the accident, Ava has endured an unimaginable medical journey, including 46 total days in the hospital across three separate admissions, 17 surgeries, 27 CT scans, 47 chest X-rays, 12 units of blood transfusions along with multiple other blood products. While we pray, she will not require additional surgeries in the future, there are still many unknowns ahead.
During her hospitalization, Ava received inpatient physical and occupational therapy and has continued outpatient therapy since December, which will continue through at least October. She is also receiving therapy for her mental and emotional healing. In the months since the accident, Ava and her family have faced overwhelming medical expenses along with the burden of lost wages — challenges no family should have to face alone.
This benefit is an opportunity for the community to rally around the Schexnider family and help ease the financial strain so they can focus on what matters most: Ava’s healing and helping their family move forward together. Every dollar raised will go directly into an account specifically designated for Ava’s ongoing medical care. Whether you attend, donate, or simply help spread the word, your support means more than words can express.
