Benefit for Lisette Mejias - Stronger Together, Stronger Hearts

All proceeds will be given to Lisette Mejias. On April 12th early in the morning on the first 24 hours on a last-minute long weekend getaway to Myrtle Beach Lisette woke up suddenly from her sleep in pain knowing something was not right. She was driven to urgent care which was close by, and the wonderful doctors there quickly realized what they were dealing with and sent her by ambulance to Grand Strand Hospital. Lisette was dealing with a Type I aortic dissection which is a life-threatening medical emergency where a tear starts in the ascending aorta and extends through the aortic arch and down into the descending aorta. Immediate open-heart surgery to repair the torn aorta and replace the damaged section with a synthetic tube graft. Lisette spent 14 days in the ICU where the doctors performed a surgery that has never been done before to save her life. After this she was able to come home where she then set up appointments for doctors in Boston to take over her care. She recently had another surgery as Lisette had issues with the flow of blood to her right side that hindered her waking. She is now able to walk without issues. This is a lifelong disability now that Lisette must live with but she is so grateful to be alive. Since the famous John Ritter and Alan Thicke dying from the same rare and dangerous heart condition that led to a ruptured aorta, doctors and nurses are acutely aware of what to look for in patients.
