Let us start by saying it loud and clear: 🖕 cancer.
Alex is only 14 years old, an age meant for school dances, inside jokes, big dreams, and figuring out who you want to be — not for hospital visits, medical terminology, and fear no family should have to carry. Alex has been diagnosed with Angiomatoid Fibrous Histiocytoma (AFH), a rare soft tissue cancer that primarily affects children and young adults. Rare or not, cancer is brutal, unfair, and life-altering — especially when it targets a kid.
While Alex is facing the fight of his life, his family is facing a battle of their own: the emotional weight of uncertainty, the physical exhaustion of constant care, and the overwhelming financial strain that comes with medical treatment. Bills don’t pause for diagnoses. Life doesn’t slow down just because everything suddenly hurts.
That’s where we come in.
The Red Barn Saloon, a small dive bar that’s been part of this community for over 40 years, is proud to do what it has always done best — show up for its people. For decades, the Red Barn has been more than a bar. It’s been a gathering place, a second home, and a place where neighbors become family. When someone in our community is hurting, we don’t look away — we rally.
We will be hosting a benefit to help ease some of the financial burden Alex’s family is carrying during this incredibly difficult time. We know we can’t take away their pain — we would in a heartbeat if we could — but what we can do is stand beside them. Together, with the strength of this community, we can help lift some of the weight so they can focus on what truly matters: Alex.
Plans are still coming together, but things to look forward to include a pool tournament and a chili cook-off, along with good food, good company, and a whole lot of love. Most importantly, it will be a night rooted in hope, support, and the reminder that Alex and his family are not alone in this fight.
