At depths of nearly 20,000 feet, the abyssal plains cover nearly 70% of the ocean floor, making them the largest habitat on Earth — and one of the least understood. On Sept. 23, join us for this presentation by Dr. Kira Mizell, exploring the geology and minerals of the deep sea, their associated ecosystems, and the knowledge gaps that remain about these remote environments.
The evening includes a conversation with Dr. Kira Mizell and Bishop Museum scientists, as well as access to our newest exhibition, “Explore EXCORE: The Art of Underwater Science,” and a special behind-the-scenes look at the Museum’s Invertebrate Zoology Collection.
