Bio - Ben Braaten's lyrics and performances are compelling and honest with an endearing undercurrent of melodrama, Ben creates a warm fireplace inviting you to draw closer to witness the shimmer of its coals and be swept up in its smoke screen. Prairie born, ocean raised, his writing exists in the emotional weather of a body trying to make sense of itself and the tension between upbringing and growing up. While not exactly a historian, Ben uses songwriting as a way to document living: a record of mistakes, revelations, rage, tenderness, and thoughtfulness. Music born of chaos, care, shame, pride, joy and unraveling all intertwined with creative necessity and dedication towards the muses. Inspired by his embodied experience as a gay man, he plays with stories that simplify queerness to feel both ancient and immediate; expressions of remembrance steeped with honesty and gossip.
