Being Heumann: A Disability Rights Film Screening
About this Event
Join One Vision for a screening of Being Heumann, a film exploring the life and legacy of Judith (Judy) Heumann, a pioneering disability rights activist widely recognized as a leader of the disability rights movement.
The film highlights pivotal moments in disability rights history, including the 1977 Section 504 sit-in, when approximately 100 disabled activists and allies occupied a federal building in San Francisco for 26 days to demand enforcement of civil rights protections for people with disabilities. Their collective action helped shape the movement for greater accessibility, equality, and inclusion.
At One Vision, our value of Relentless Disruption reflects the courage to challenge barriers, question the status quo, and create opportunities for people with disabilities to pursue their best lives. This screening offers an opportunity to learn more about the history behind that work, reflect on the progress made, and consider the work that continues today.
Screening Dates: Friday, November 13, and Saturday, November 14, 2026
Two screenings are planned:
- Friday, November 13: 1:00-3:30 P.M.
- Saturday, November 14: 6:00-8:30 P.M.
Registration is required due to limited seating.
We encourage One Vision team members, individuals we support, families, and community members to participate in this opportunity to celebrate disability rights history and the people who continue to advance independence, accessibility, and inclusion.
