About this Event

Discover the Stories Hidden Between the Streets

You may not come to Pullman expecting the alleys to be the most revealing part—but once you see them, you’ll never look at the town the same way again.

This guided walking tour explores Pullman National Historical Park from its most overlooked spaces: the alleys. Far from forgotten backstreets, these carefully designed corridors reveal how the town truly worked—and who it was designed for. They expose the everyday realities behind Pullman’s polished image and offer surprising insight into architecture, public health, social order, and control within a model industrial community.

Chicago is often called the alley capital of America, yet few places use alleys as intentionally—or tell their story as clearly—as Pullman. Planned from the very beginning, Pullman’s alleys shaped how residents lived, how the town functioned, and how ideals of efficiency, cleanliness, and oversight were enforced.

As we step off the main streets, you’ll uncover architectural details and untold stories that rarely make it into traditional tours. This is a walk for the curious—for those interested in hidden systems, overlooked spaces, and the stories that sit just beneath the surface.

Join us to explore the National Park from an unexpected angle—and discover how Pullman’s smallest spaces reveal its biggest ideas.
