Join us for Part 2 of our Beginner's Watercolor Workshop Series — Exploring Wet-In-Wet Watercolor Effects & Surface Techniques. Part of an ongoing installation of Art Workshops hosted by the Cherokee Alliance of Visual Artists (CAVA) and taught by Amanda Clarke-Peterson.
This workshop explores how watercolor behaves during the different stages of drying and how artists can use timing, water control, and brush techniques to create a variety of effects.
Students will experiment with techniques such as charging color, lifting, scraping, edge control, drying differential, and other watercolor effects while developing a better understanding of water-to-pigment ratios and brush moisture control. We will also explore a variety of common household items and their use combined with watercolor.
Rather than focusing on a finished painting, this class emphasizes observation, experimentation, and technique practice. Participants will create a collection of studies and reference samples that can be used in future watercolor work.
This class is recommended for students who have completed Beginner Watercolor Part 1 or who have a basic understanding of watercolor materials and washes.
