This is a free event for new/intermediate weavers in our community who want help with their weaving from the experienced weavers of SCHG!
About this Event

You are invited to attend the first ever Southern California Handweavers' Guild Beginners' Expo! This is a free event for newbies, both guild members and from our community.

Bring your questions for our experienced guild members--we are here to help you on your weaving journey! Whether you have just started weaving or are just trying to fill in some gaps in your knowledge, this is the place for you.

(Please note this is not a learn-to-weave event! If you have not done any weaving, look for our Weave-a-Scarf In a Day workshops to get you started)

The event is free, but space is limited and registration is required for non-members.

Agenda

🕑: 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM
Guild Weaving Challenge: Weaving Telephone

Info: Our day begins with a taste of what our members do with weaving as our teams in the Weaving Telephone challenge show their work. Similar to the 'telephone' game we all played as kids, the first member of each team received the same image to inspire their work. After they wove their piece, the next teammember received only their piece, not the original photo, to inspire their work, and so on. This is a great opportunity for our newer weavers to see the amazing things we can do with weaving! Following the presentation, there will be some light refreshments before the Expo begins at 12:00.

🕑: 12:00 PM - 02:00 PM
Beginners' Expo

Info: Welcome to our first ever Beginners' Expo at the SCHG! During this event, you can visit the many stations around the room at your own pace. Experienced weavers will be at each one to answer your questions, demonstrate techniques, and give you a chance to try different looms as well as practice some skills. Stations will include: Weaving Mechanics, Reading Drafts and Understanding Patterns and Weave Structures, Loom Warping, Rigid Heddle Weaving, Tapestry Weaving, Winding a Warp, and a Loom Test Drive Center where you can try out different types of weaving looms. Also, make sure to visit our Membership table to find out all of the advantages to SCHG membership and find out how to connect to the many teachers in our guild!
